What Is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program that helps cover the cost of a range of oral health care services for eligible Canadian residents. It's administered by Sun Life on behalf of Health Canada, and as of 2026 it's open to eligible Canadians of all ages.

The plan is designed to make dental care more accessible for individuals and families who don't have access to private dental insurance, so more people can get the care they need to stay healthy.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all of the following:
You don't have access to private dental insurance — through an employer, a pension, a family member's plan, or a personal policy. This applies even if you're eligible for a plan but not enrolled.
Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000 per year — this is the household income threshold set by the program.
You're a Canadian resident for tax purposes —
and you (and your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable) have filed your most recent tax return.​
You have a valid Social Insurance Number —
required for each person applying.
How to Apply
Applying for the CDCP is straightforward:

Confirm your eligibility using the criteria above.

Gather your information — your Social Insurance Number, and the same for your spouse or common-law partner and any dependent children (if applicable). Make sure your tax return has been filed.

Apply online or by phone through the Government of Canada. Once approved, Sun Life will send you a welcome package with your coverage start date and member card.

Book your appointment with us — bring your CDCP member details to your visit, and we'll take care of the rest.
